Open Gallery is over. After 2 years, 300 delivered authorisations, 250 paintings and 3 public and free venues, we shut down. Why? Public works: city council wants to remove the actual wall enclosing the Parc de les Aigües and replace it for another thats allows to more visual control. Transparent architecture, they call it.

That means that Barcelona is again without any free graphic expression public space.

Delivery of authorisations is cancelled untill a new placement for the project is eventually defined.

El barri de Sant Roc és un dels barris més castigats de l’àrea metropolitana de Barcelona. Construït a la dècada dels 60, l’habita majoritàriament població d’ètnia gitana desplaçada d’altres zones, amb un percentatge significatiu d’immigració forània, sobretot paquistanesa.

El taller va ser realitzat durant la setmana del 7 a l’11 de juny, amb alumnes de la U.E.C i de 2n d’E.S.O. de l’escola. En total hi van participar uns 15 nois i noies, però amb una assistència irregular –l’absentisme escolar és un dels principals problemes dels joves del barri-, majoritàriament d’ètnia gitana però també marroquins i paquistanesos.

L’objectiu del taller era provocar una reflexió sobre la realitat quotidiana i plasmar-la en una pintura mural. El desenvolupament va ser el següent.

Dia 1

Amb l’objectiu de facilitar la cohesió grupal –els alumens eren de diferents grups classe- vam realitzar dues dinàmiques d’empoderament (Salt de longitud i Sortir de la rotllana). A través de l’activitat i el contacte físic preteníem fer-los veure que són capaços de fer allò que es proposin.

Una vegada acabades les dinàmiques, vam sortir a l’entorn urbà més habitual per ells amb la intenció de que el fotografiéssin. La ruta aproximada –triada per ells mateixos- va ser aquesta:

Dia 2

Una vegada realitzades les fotografies, vam triar amb quines treballariem. A través de la visualització conjunta del material recollit, els nois i noies van anar explicant el perquè de les fotografies que havien realitzat.

Finalment, a través d’una dinàmica de consens, vam obtenir diversos temes per treballar, en funció del que ells van considerar més rellevant del barri: barbacoa, párajo (sic), basura, coche y playa.

Dia 3

Realització de les plantilles a partir del treball de reflexió i anàlisi realitzat prèviament amb els joves. No obstant, a causa de certes dificultats amb la continuitat, capacitats i dedicació dels joves, es va haver de reduïr els topics obtinguts a un denominador comú: la gent, precisament allò que estava darrera dels temes que havien sortit.

D’aquesta manera, els nois i noies van poder realitzar ells mateixos les plantilles, projectant i retallant siluetes de fotografies de persones, d’ells mateixos i d’altres que haviem trobat pel carrer (amics, l’àvia d’un dels nois…).

Where there are no rope there are no limits, no blockades, and the life of the space blossoms in the form of words.

These ephemeral inscriptions on the walls (written in chalk) are the words of the residents of the Priorat region. They are a the responses from a previous project, also done at Priorat Centre d’Art, a survey conducted asking them what the most important aspects of the region were and what they might want to change in the future.

On more than one occasion the answer was “Res” (Nothing in Catalan). This is exactly what we brought to the space, nothing. They did not attempt to tell their own story in this unique space but rather presented the wine cellar as it is and utilized it as a place to communicate the messages of the people of the region.

The silk screen printing is a millennial technique born in China. Today can be very complicated or very simple and rudimentary , but its importance lies in that this print can be easyly repeated; once we have obtained a first model, the print can be repeated many times.

At this workshop we propose to extract the essence of the basic screen printing: which is the minimum effort for the maximum result? How can we print precariously with the best result? We know one way, but it surely can get worse …
